Merrell Work Boots Review
Upper | Water resistance and Breathability | Sole | Specs | Key features | Pros & Cons | Conclusion
Who needs this shoe?
Well, there is no such condition that others cannot use this. As a matter of fact, if you think that you need to keep your feet secure than you can buy it. But it is more useful and important for the people as I said, the heavy-duty outdoor workers whose feet need safety because of their line of work.
It can be used for any work from DIY (Do It Yourself) works to industry or factory works or construction workers or mechanical or electrical, etc. works.
Just looking at such rough and bold upper of this boot can give you the idea of its leather origin. But just to inform you clearly, the upper of this boot is made of specialized full-grain leather and textile that also happen to be very waterproof.
From the upper to your feet inside, there is like 3-4 layers of leather, membrane, foam, etc. My point is, we are having a waterproof and tough layer of leather from the very beginning for more safety.
And yeah, speaking of safety; there is another hard part of the upper left. It is the puncture-resistant toe plate of this boot. Although it is not actually made of metal or 100% puncture-proof, still its hard layer can give your toe a good amount of protection from any shock.
Water resistance and Breathability:
After the upper layer, there is the membrane of meshes that provide air circulation in and out of the boot. You know, you will be working with these on, so it won’t be a surprise if your feet sweat or you feel very hot.
Under such circumstances, this meshed membrane will come handy. By taking the heated air or moisture away from your feet inside, it will give you cool sensation inside.
And by the way, this boot is also oil and slip-resistant. Again, you will be working with these on. So it is kind of obvious that there will be oil and slippery conditions. But the good thing is that it is resistant to those too.
But there is a bad limitation of meshed or vented shoes or boots. As they are vented, they have holes (but very tiny). And water can easily pass through these holes. However, if you have this boot, you will remain untouched by water.
This is Merrell’s M Select Dry waterproof membrane for you. It made the boot both meshed and waterproof at the same time.
Well, the sole has three parts in it. The first insole or footbed part consists of the Kinetic Fit Elite blended EVA contoured footbed. It is arched, soft and also has a pad in the heel for better stability and comfortable feeling.
Then the next midsole; which is very soft but thick and capable of offering good flexibility for any type of work with the boots.
And the last part (it just keeps getting better); which is the outsole and toughest part of the boot is made with M Select Grip feature. As a result, we have a very strong outsole under the soft midsole that also has 5mm deep lugs. It is extremely slip-resistant from outside and also give very good traction over any terrain.
